All members of the Gloster Gladiators Scout Band are also active members of the 46th Gloucester Scout Group.
The Band was formed in 1957 as a Bugle and Drum Band, using a few second hand instruments, the Band has been known as the 46th Gloucester Scout Band, Christchurch (Gloucester) Scout & Guide Band and are now known as the Gloster Gladiators Scout Band and are a marching Brass band. Members of the band are aged 8 years onwards and are all members of the 46th Gloucester Scout Group. They play a variety of instruments including Trumpets, Baritones, Glockenspiels and Snare Drums.
July is a busy month, giving you plenty of opportunities to watch the Band. The first weekend they are performing in Gloucester Park, followed by a procession to the Cathedral to celebrate the Year of the Child and in the afternoon they are Leading Longhope Carnival and performing their display in the arena. The Second weekend they are leading Alyburton Carnival and performing their display in the arena. On the Third weekend they will once again be part of the Gloucester Carnival Procession. As you can see from the photo’s this month the band has taken part in Gloucester Carnival for many years. So if you see them at any of these events, give them a cheer and pop along for a chat. This month they have also purchased three brand new Super XTS snare drums, which are half the weight of the current snare drums. This will enable younger members to be able to play the snare drum earlier.
This year you may have seen the Band parading through Gloucester. Along with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from Gloucester in the annual St Georges Day Parade.
Last year the band performed for the Mayor in Tredworth, led Gloucester Districts St Georges Day Parade. During May they performed at the Dragon Boat Racing in Gloucester Docks and at Gloucester Waterways Museum. In June they performed at 1st Cheltenham’s Scout Group’s Centenary Celebration at Cranham and at Saul Raft Regatta. July was a busy month for the band. Performing in Longhope Carnival and Fete, Alyburton Carnival and Fete, and Gloucester Carnival. In October the band led Taunton Night Carnival and then enjoyed the rest of the weekend at Bishop’s Lydeard Scout Camp Site. During November they led Woodmancote & Bishops Cleeve and Tetbury’s Remembrance Day Parades, took part in Gloucester’s Christmas Lights Switch On Procession, performed at the opening of Gloucester’s Outdoor Ice Rink, played the Carols in Gloucester District’s Carol Service and entertained the shoppers in Gloucester.
